Gillette School

  • All classes will run from 3:30-4:30

  • Students will remain with the attendant until class begins

  • The attendant will dismiss students from the front main entrance of the school

Tuesdays (8 weeks: 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 4/26, 5/3, Make up 5/10):

Elementary Egypt:  Feel that desert heat as we begin an exciting adventure exploring the daily life of our ancient Egyptian ancestors. Thanks to their creativity and their genius at engineering and building, we have many examples of the work they did that still survive to this day. We’ll get to experience life in the time of the pharaohs as we make Egyptian jewelry, build pyramids, make a magnificent pharaoh’s mask to dress up with, paint on papyrus scrolls and create lots more artwork as we learn about hieroglyphics, the Rosetta Stone, Pyramids, King Tut, Cleopatra, mummification, and more on this awesome trip back in time.  Instructor to be provided by Artsy Smartsy$170 for 8 classes.  Max 12 students. 

Lego Robotics:  Are you good at building with Legos?  Why not take your skills one step further and build and program an actual robot that follows your commands?  In this fun-filled, cooperative 8-week course, you and your team will build and code a robot.  You will program it to meet specific challenges in the best way.  You will even get to take your team’s robot head-to-head with the other teams’ robots in a competition to see who has the best one! Instructor to be provided by Hobby Quest.  $210 for 8 classes.  Max 16 students.

Little Ninjas:  Modeled after the fun and challenge of the TV show “American Ninja Warrior,” Little Ninjas will teach the basics of agility and strength by having the participants run through various obstacle courses each week.  Little Ninjas will run, hop, climb, and crawl their way to victory against the clock.  We’ll train for the events and play fun games during the period to keep everyone moving!  SNEAKERS ARE MANDATORY and light tumbling will occur.  Instructor: Mike Czech.  $195 for 8 classes.  Max 16 students.

Stars on Stage:  Come unleash the actor within. This 8-week workshop is designed to introduce young children to the world of theater through acting games and exercises while rehearsing for a short 1 act play which is performed on the last day of class.  Instructor to be provided by Wharton Institute of Performing Arts.  $190 for 8 classes.   Max 14 students.

Chess: Premier Chess is excited to partner with Long Hill Force to offer a chess class for all students. We will teach rules, discuss strategy, and learn about tactical themes that can get students ready to compete in tournaments. Instructor to be provided by Premier Chess.  $195 for 8 classes.  Max 25 students.

Craft Crazy: Join us for hours of creative crafting fun as we design, build, and create awesome art projects with paint, wood, clay, paper, ribbon, beads, and lots of other fun embellishments.  You’ll discover a great artful outlet and have lots of fun to boot in this crazy crafty course!  Instructor to be provided by Artsy Smartsy$170 for 8 classes.  Max 12 students.

Dinosaur Adventure: Dinosaurs ruled the earth for millions of years. Then suddenly they disappeared. Learn all about dinosaurs as we take an adventure back in time. Find out which dinosaur was the largest, which was the smallest, which had the most horns, the longest neck, or which ate the most food. Learn which dinosaurs evolved into animals of our own time and create awesome art projects in paint, collage and clay as we work our way through our own awesome Jurassic Park! Instructor to be provided by Artsy Smartsy$170 for 8 classes.  Max 12 students.

The Mad Side of Science:  Experiments are the best part of being a Mad Scientist! In this program, kids learn about several specialized areas of science, including forensics, geology, kinesiology, meteorology, entomology, and mechanical engineering.  Instructor to be provided by Mad Science.  $190 for 8 classes.  Max 20 students.

Zumba Kids, Jr.: Join Zumba Kids, Jr., where small feet create big moves!  Classes are rockin' full of energy and packed with child-friendly music and routines. We break down steps, add games, activities, and cultural elements into the class structure. Classes are geared towards developing a healthy lifestyle and incorporating fitness as a natural part of young children's lives.  We build confidence and coordination while every child is encouraged and we have lots of fun doing it!  Instructor:  Donna Sukiennik, licensed Zumba Kids instructor.  $150 for 8 classes.  Max 15 students. 

 

Thursdays (8 weeks: 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14, 4/28, 5/5, Make up 5/12):

PE Games & Activities with Mr. Manto:  This class will be held at Gillette in the Gym. This is a great opportunity for kids to move, have fun, and socialize with their peers. Mr. Manto will have the students playing PE class favorites as well as introduce some new games and activities.  Instructor: Josh Manto.  $90 for 8 classes.  Max 25 students.

Mondays (6 weeks: 3/7, 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/25, 5/2):

Volleyball (4TH & 5th Grade):  The goal of the FORCE volleyball program is to help children develop movement skills and volleyball specific skills in order to move and play with the basic passing and playing fundamentals of the game. The kids will participate in volleyball specific games and drills as well as become part of team building and leadership exercises!  THE MONDAY CLASS IS OPEN TO 4TH & 5TH GRADE ONLY. Instructor: Megan Knott.   $100 for 6 classes.  Max 20 students.

Mondays (8 weeks: 3/7, 3/14, 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/25, 5/2, Make up 5/9):

Fitness & Games:  This class will feature 2 to 3 different activities each week.  Activities will include discussions on nutrition, bones & muscles, Dodge Ball (foam ball), Volleyball (beach ball), Soccer, Basketball, Kick ball & Wacky Kickball, Team Hand Ball, Capture the Flag, and Hyperspace/tag games.  Please note, activities may vary depending on the age of the class.  Instructor: Mike Lisbona.  $100 for 8 classes.  Max 40 students

Introduction to Board Games: This course will offer an introduction to various board games for children. We will cover how to read directions, follow rules, and play fairly. Each week will introduce a new board game. Some of the games that would be introduced and played in small group environments are Candyland, Mouse Trap, Apples to Apples, Sorry, Trouble, Chutes and Ladders, Don't Break the Ice, and Kerplunk. Instructor: Shannon Butler.  $100 for 8 classes.  Max 24 students.

 

Tuesday (6 weeks: 3/8, 3/15, 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, Make up 4/26):

Music Creators: Use music technology to create your own music!  Music Creators class is designed to help kids create their own music using technology and music theory, and is open to grades 2-5. Creators are taught to create their own songs with the help of music technology! This weekly class is great for kids who love music and are interested in learning how it is made.  Using technology, students can quickly make music that sounds just like all of the music recordings they love. Students will learn popular chord progressions and even write their own songs. At the end of the program, kids will have a song recording to share with their friends and family. No music experience required. Instructor to be provided by So I Heard Music.  $65 for 6 classes.  Max 8 students.

Clay Play: Join in the fun as we explore many different ways to create with clay. Throughout history, pottery has been the container of choice for storing, serving and preserving foods, liquids and other goods in the home and hearth. It has also been the medium of choice for making jewelry and other decorative items that enhance our lives and build self-esteem. We’ll use air dry clay to sculpt and mold, make jewelry and kinetic art with polymer clay, and have an awesome time with everyone’s favorite - Model Magic! Instructor to be provided by Artsy Smartsy.  $170 for 8 classes.  Max 12 students.

ROBLOX:  Students will dive into the world of ROBLOX, giving them the creative freedom to build and explore new worlds.  We will explore new servers each week offering up team based competitive games, tycoons, and simulators. Students will work together, join games as a group or simply enjoy the company of like-minded gamers in games of their choice.  No previous experience necessary. ROBLOX accounts can be pre-made or students can make them for free in class.  Instructor: Andrew Nestler.  $100 for 8 classes.  Max 24 students.

Arts & Crafts:  Do you like to craft? Get creative in Arts and Crafts! In this class, you will create meaningful projects that you can keep forever. Using wood, paint, markers, stencils, etc., we will create picture frames, personalized signs... No two projects alike! Scraptastics: In the Scraptastics program the kids can capture their favorite memories in a custom scrapbook. Scrapbooking gives students an opportunity to be creative in saving their memories.  Kids will create scrapbook pages, projects, cards, wall displays, or remembrances to share with friends and families in a relaxed atmosphere.  The teacher will share techniques and materials and the hour will fly by as we "scrap" together. In addition, students will learn and share techniques with one another. This club is a great way to learn some new skills and make some new friends! Instructor: Brittany Giordano.  $120 for 6 classes.  Max 25 students.

Outdoor Adventure:  In this brand-new class, students will explore the bountiful garden located at Millington school and the grounds which surround it. They will learn about different types of plants, wild animals and they will plant and harvest crops. Students will also learn about outdoor skills like using maps, compasses, identifying landmarks, and general navigation. Through participating in this class, students will learn the science behind their natural world which will draw them closer to their natural surroundings. They will learn skills that can be used on a daily basis as they learn about conservation, sustainability and proper care of our environment. Instructors:  Shannon Butler & Andrew Nestler.  $100 for 8 classes.  Max 24 students.  

Fridays (8 weeks:  3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, Make up 5/20):

Just Breathe:  This is a yoga/mindfulness class which will include breathing exercises, yoga poses, games and guided relaxation. Just Breathe will teach children how to reduce stress in a healthy way, an important life skill that will help them as children and as adults. Students will also benefit from improving their balance, flexibility and body awareness in this class.  Instructor: Pam Kmetz.  $100 for 8 classes.  Max 15 students.



Central School

Public Speaking: The ability to speak confidently in front of people is a learnable skill.  This class will help the student overcome his or her fear of speaking in front of groups.  The class will teach students how to order their thoughts to effectively communicate, and learn to enjoy giving presentations.  Proper posture, eye contact, speaking cadence, and other aspects of effective communication will be discussed in a friendly and encouraging format.  Instructor: Mike Czech.  $170 for 8 classes.  Max 16 students.

Fridays (8 weeks:  3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/8, 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, Make up 5/20):

Flag Football: Flag football is designed to teach you more than just the fundamentals. It’s about being a part of a team and most importantly, having fun. Flag football is designed to give boys and girls of all abilities a chance to learn, play, and have a blast doing it. We will not only be learning the game of flag football but incorporating fun drills and games throughout the Flag Football Season! Instructor: Jim Huff, Football Coach at Watchung Hills HS.  $100 for 8 classes.  Max 40 students.
