Gillette School

All classes will run from 3:30-4:30

Classes are open to grade K-1 unless otherwise marked

Students will remain with the attendant until class begins

Tuesdays (8 weeks: 3/12, 3/19, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30, 5/7, 5/14, Make up 5/21):

 

Brixology: BIRXOLOGY sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! Kids learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project each week using LEGO bricks. They learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. They explore mechanical engineering as they build boats and vehicles.  And that’s not all…from carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges; your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills.  Let the tinkering begin! **THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO PRE-K 4 STUDENTS** Instructor to be provided by Mad Science. $220 for 8 classes. Max 20 students.

 

Stars on Stage: In Stars on Stage, students will spend 8 one-hour classes learning theatre fundamentals like stage directions, projection and diction, and character building through games, exercises, and rehearsals. Taking creative risks, developing the imagination, and a nonjudgmental environment will be emphasized to make all students feel welcome. A casual audition process and rehearsals will culminate in a short performance of the pre-chosen play, "Finding Nemo" on the day of the final class. **THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO PRE-K 4 STUDENTS** Instructor to be provided by Wharton Institute of Performing Arts.  $190 for 8 classes.   Max 14 students.

 

Study Buddies: This is an enrichment class in which students will be able to complete their homework and/or participate in learning centers. Activities will center around phonics, math, writing, and reading to provide enrichment beyond their homework. Please note, students do not need to have homework to attend!  Instructor: Tracy Pierce. $120 for 8 classes.  Max 20 students.

 

 

Wednesdays (8 weeks:  3/13, 3/20, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, Make up 5/22):

 

Chess: Premier Chess is excited to partner with Long Hill Force to offer a chess class for all students. We will teach rules, discuss strategy, and learn about tactical themes that can get students ready to compete in tournaments. **THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO PRE-K 4 STUDENTS** Instructor to be provided by Premier Chess.  $195 for 8 classes.  Max 25 students.

 

Let’s Draw: Calling all artists! Students will get the opportunity to hone their skills through directed drawing. Each week students will learn how to draw a different picture using crayons, colored pencils, and/or markers to bring their pictures to life. Students will come home with their creations each week, so make room on the fridge! Instructor: Tracy Pierce. $120 for 8 classes.  Max 25 students.

 

Magic: The Magician holds up an object and the audience gasps with amazement:  the object is floating in mid-air!  The Magician waves their hand and the object disappears!  But the most amazing thing of all is that the Magician is you!  You will learn the secrets of magic, making things seem to appear, disappear, float, and transform!    And best of all, you will get keep the tricks and to perform them in a real live Magic Show at the end of the semester! Let’s Make Magic! **THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO PRE-K 4 STUDENTS** Instructor to be provided by Saturday’s Child. $210 for 8 classes. Max 18 students.

PE Games & Activities: This class will be held at Gillette in the Gym. This is a great opportunity for kids to move, have fun, and socialize with their peers. Mr. Manto will have the students playing PE class favorites as well as introduce some new games and activities.  Instructor: Josh Manto.  $120 for 8 classes.  Max 18 students.

Dodgeball: Embark on an action-packed 8-week Dodgeball Fundamentals class designed for students in grades 2-5! Participants will master throwing, catching, and agility, all while focusing on teamwork and communication. Our experienced instructor creates a safe and inclusive environment, ensuring confidence and camaraderie. The program concludes with mini-tournaments and challenges, offering a fun and educational experience that fosters physical activity, teamwork, and positive competition. Join us for an exciting journey through the fundamentals of dodgeball! Instructor: Megan Meleika.  $120 for 8 classes.  Max 30 students.

 

Exploring the World: Join us as we use interactive research and hands-on experiences to travel to a new country each week. Students will be introduced to a new country each week and participate in a read aloud, research, interactive tours, a cultural craft, and more! Students will compile their research in a travel agent binder. We will also provide students with a passport to get stamped at the end of each journey. Don’t miss out on Exploring the World! **THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO GRADE 2 & 3 ONLY** Instructors: Dana Cursi and Brianna Fischer. $135 for 8 classes. Max 20 students.

 

Kids on the Run: The class will inspire you to build confidence and other important life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons, and physical exercise. Through team building activities we will bring awareness to the importance of lifting each other up to accomplish our goals.  We will practice building endurance and stamina as we work towards an end goal of running or walking an OPTIONAL 5K together as a team! No need to be an athlete or runner, and you do not need to sign up for the 5K to take part in this class! The spring 5K is to be determined. More information will be provided later. **THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO GRADES 3-5 ONLY** Instructors: Michelle Morris & Melanie Muir.  $150 for 8 classes.  Max 30 students.

 

Messy Science: Science is Fun!  Science is Cool.  But most of all, Science is Messy.  In Saturday’s Child’s Messy Science class, we are not afraid of a little Mess.  How else are you going to make something bubble over, blow up or transform?  In this fun-filled, hands-on class, you never know what kind of science you will be learning.  You might mix a compound that changes color, or launch a rocket, or turn liquid solid.  But one thing you do know is that it will be Messy! Let’s make a Mess and Learn! Instructor to be provided by Saturday’s Child. $210 for 8 classes. Max 18 students.

Basics Sewing Made Fun & Easy: This course inspires and teaches children how to sew as well as fashion etiquette. The young designers learn how to sew step by step with classes that include instruction on pillows, dolls, how to sew buttons and more. By the end of the course, students who are brand new to sewing will be able to complete projects independently.  Instructor to be provided by House of Dezign.  $210 for 8 classes.  Max 10 students.

 

Chef it Up: Calling all young chefs! Do your kids love to cook and create delicious treats? Look no further! Join Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Meleika for an unforgettable culinary adventure in our fun, exciting, and interactive sweets, treats, and meals class! Let your little chefs' creativity soar as they whip up their favorite recipes and discover exciting new ones! And don't worry, we've got peanut/tree-nut free options available for all our young chefs with allergies. Get ready for a mouthwatering lineup including: Shamrock Shakes, Pasta Party, Bagel Butterflies, Tasty Tacos, Smoothie Social...and so much more! Instructor: Brittany Lee. $160 for 8 classes. Max 45 students.

 

Mad Side of Science: Join us after school in the Mad Science club for some awesome hands-on fun! Become a detective, and engineer, a chemist, a film maker, and more! Take apart the earth as you explore volcanoes, or become a toy maker as you explore the science of toys!  Create crazy cool concoctions in the kitchen as you cook up chemistry, and explore the human body as we learn what makes us tick! Every week we explore a new and exciting topic and create something to take home! Let’s get Mad and Silly with MAD SCIENCE! Instructor to be provided by Mad Science. $220 for 8 classes. Max 20 students.

 

Outdoor Adventures: In this class, students will explore the bountiful garden located at Millington school and the grounds which surround it. They will learn about different types of plants, wild animals and they will plant and harvest crops. Students will also learn about outdoor skills like using maps, compasses, identifying landmarks, and general navigation. Through participating in this class, students will learn the science behind their natural world which will draw them closer to their natural surroundings. They will learn skills that can be used on a daily basis as they learn about conservation, sustainability and proper care of our environment. Instructors: Shannon Butler and Andrew Nestler. $120 for 8 classes. Max 25 students.

Arts & Crafts: Do you like to craft? Get creative in Arts and Crafts! In this class, you will create meaningful projects that you can keep forever. Using wood, paint, markers, stencils, etc., we will create picture frames, personalized signs... No two projects alike! Instructors: Dana Cursi and Marissa Vanderbeek. $160 for 8 classes. Max 30 students.

 

Cursive Club: This club is for all students, those who have not been exposed to cursive at all, those who possess only some limited knowledge of it, and children who have been exposed to cursive handwriting instruction and are interested in increasing legibility and fluidity. We will practice writing the letters of the alphabet individually, forming and linking letters together, as well as working on creating our formal signature. Each class will begin with a gross motor activity to awaken the large muscle groups. Next, we will move into a visual motor activity to get the eyes and hands working together. Then we will work on fine motor skills, the handwriting portion. We will end each session with self- and/or group assessments. **THIS CLASS IS OPEN TO GRADES 2-4 ONLY** Instructor: Pam Kmetz. $120 for 8 classes. Max 8 students.

 

Track & Field: Participants in this program will work with and learn from a Track and Field athlete. The program is appropriate for beginners. Athletes will review proper warm-up routines and running form, how to hurdle & long jump. They will participate in fun running games and activities. This program is designed to expose young athletes to the sport of track and field and running in general. Instructor: Britanny Lee. $120 for 8 classes. Max 30 students.

 

Volleyball:  Join our 8-week Volleyball Basics class designed for grades 2-5! Learn fundamental volleyball skills like serving, passing, and teamwork through engaging drills and activities. Our experienced instructor fosters a positive and encouraging environment, emphasizing sportsmanship. The program concludes with mini-games and skill challenges, ensuring a fun and enriching experience that instills a love for volleyball and essential life skills. Dive into the world of volleyball with Mrs. Meleika! Instructor: Megan Meleika.  $120 for 8 classes.  Max 30 students.

 

 

Fridays (8 weeks: 3/15, 3/22, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, Make up 5/24):

 

Just Breathe: This is a yoga/mindfulness class which will include breathing exercises, yoga poses, games, and guided relaxation. Just Breathe will teach children how to reduce stress in a healthy way, an important life skill that will help them as children and as adults. Students will also benefit from improving their balance, flexibility, and body awareness in this class.  This class is for students who have never done yoga before or have a limited knowledge of it. We will be learning different breathing and relaxation techniques and yoga poses. Instructor: Pam Kmetz. $120 for 8 classes. Max 12 students.

 

ROBLOX (B.Y.O.Device): Students will dive into the world of ROBLOX, giving them the creative freedom to build and explore new worlds.  We will explore new servers each week offering up team based competitive games, tycoons, and simulators. Students will work together, join games as a group or simply enjoy the company of like-minded gamers in games of their choice.  No previous experience necessary. ROBLOX accounts can be pre-made or students can make them for free in class. Students are responsible for providing their own devices for this class. Instructor: Andrew Nestler. $120 for 8 classes.  Max 24 students.

 

Sports & Fitness: This class will feature 2 to 3 different activities each week.  Activities will include discussions on nutrition, bones & muscles, Dodge Ball (foam ball), Volleyball (beach ball), Soccer, Basketball, Kick ball & Wacky Kickball, Team Hand Ball, Capture the Flag, and Hyperspace/tag games.  Please note, activities may vary depending on the age of the class.  Instructor: Mike Lisbona.  $120 for 8 classes.  Max 50 students
